In high school, we had to submit a photo every Friday via Flickr. These photos were meant to demonstrate our understanding of key photography concepts. Each Friday, we would have to explain why and how we took the photo. My favorite types of photos were ones of reflections and different ways yo use the surroundings to frame the picture.
Black and White Photography
In my Junior year of high school, I took film photography. This class consisted of us taking film photos, rolling and processing the film rolls, and being in a dark room to put the photos on paper. We also had to access each print to ensure there was a white and a black. I even did a “shoe box” pinhole print.
Social Group
In my photography class in college, we had to consider a social group we were a part of and photograph it. I chose to do the “women in cities” group and focused on different ways women are told to be safe. By carrying a whistle, being in groups, pretending to be on the phone, holding a key between knuckles, and dressing more modestly.
Space
For this project, we had to choose a photographer we were inspired by and recreate their style. The only rule was that there has to be consistency between the photos. I chose to recreate the style of an Instagram photographer who put people into futuristic backgrounds and chose the theme of space.
