For each project, for my Graphics I course, we had to submit three drafts to be critiqued. At the end of the semester, we got to re-edit our designs and put them into a final portfolio. I have included the three rough drafts and the final submission for each project.
Book Jacket Design Rough Drafts
For the book jacket design, we had to pick a book we like and redesign the cover. I chose to resign the cover of Holly Jackson’s murder mystery “A Good Girl’s to Murder”. I chose to do the fingerprints throughout the design because it alludes to the mystery and the pops of red to the murder. The fingerprints were also a small part of the original design. This assignment really taught me how to use Indesign to its fullest.

Wordmark Rough Drafts
The Special Olympics Maryland is an organization that specializes in children and adults with intellectual or physical disabilities. I chose to make a wordmark for Special Olympics Maryland because I have worked with special needs students and find it very enjoyable. I decided to highlight the Law Enforcement Torch Run, as a torch is an iconic part of any Olympics and is easy to recognize. I tied in the color red around the words to put emphasis on it while tying in the primary color from the Special Olympics Maryland logo.

Music Poster Rough Drafts
The event poster assignment asked us to choose an artist we enjoy and make a poster for a hypothetical tour date. I chose the artist Mothica who makes alternative/indie, pop music. I chose a picture of her that had a blue hue to it as I named the tour after her latest album “Blue Hour”. I also included a moth as it is the biggest part of her imagery. This was probably my favorite project as I really felt the most confidence in my style as a design designer.

Zeigester Designer Poster Rough Drafts
The Zeigester Poster Design was inspired by the American Designer, Jessica Walsh. I wanted to replicate her use of fun, sensuous colors, and fonts. I modeled my design based on Sagmeister & Walsh’s book “Beauty”. I learned how to position text to make it look like it was actually in the book. I thought the purple silk made the books pop as well as the text.
